The Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation, with funding provided by its business enterprise arm, Wajarri Enterprises Ltd, is offering young Wajarri People aged between 16 and 24 years the opportunity to be supported to gain their C Class Driver’s licence.
WYAC is partnering with Desert to Coast Training and Assessing to provide this support.
WYAC is engaging Desert to Coast to provide up to 50 hours of driving lessons/supervised hours to participants, using Desert to Coast vehicles.
Desert to Coast charges $75/hour for this service, WYAC will be contributing $65 per hour, so the cost to participants will be only $10/hour.
We hope this WEL funding, which is provided as part of their initiative to ‘Give back to Community’, will support up to 33 young Wajarri People to become licenced drivers in the financial year ending 30/6/24.
WEL has allocated more funds for the financial year beginning 1/7/24 that should support up to 66 young Wajarri People to become licenced drivers.
At the moment this opportunity is limited to young people living in the Geraldton area (where Desert to Coast is based) but we are looking at ways to expand this opportunity into other locations.
Spaces are limited so we suggest you get your applications in quickly. Applications will close either on 31 January 2024 or sooner, once all places are filled.
We plan to commence providing this opportunity in February 2024.
